Structures of Film Openings

When making a film, the structure to the opening is very important. There are different types of film opening. The 3 main film opening structures are: discrete opening, narrative opening and stylised editing. All the opening structures differ and it depends on what mood you want to create. Some are basic and some of them are complicated as it uses a lot of editing. Here are some examples of theses openings.

The Sin City opening is a simple stylised editing as it uses a lot of cartoons pictures and writing. The effect of this type of opening is that it stands out with all the editing.
This opening however doesn't give off any clues as to what the film will be about.

The Se7en opening is an example of a discrete opening as the opening does not tell that much about what the film will be about but it does give clues s to what could happen so the audience can try and figure it out. What happens in a discrete opening is that it will have a lot of writing on a black background and then little snippets of something happening then it will go back to the black background with the white writing.
