Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when a text or film refers back to other texts or films to make the audience familiar with it or to make them alert with what is going on. Its recognizing the connections between one story and another and how it deepens our appreciation and experience.Within media is intertextuality often used.

This scene from the movie scream has been re-made and copied in this parody shows the popularity and success of the movie. Also viewers know what they are refer back to when the  scenes appears due to this being very iconic
