Structure of film openings

There are 3 main structures to a film opening which is used for most film openings. In these films, it gives the audiences a hint of what the film is about and an introduction of the film. The 3 main types of film openings are discrete,Narrative and stylised editing. These 3 types of film openings are all good in their own way.

Discrete opening -  An example of an discrete opening is the movie "six feet under", the opening does not have much information about the film and has credits rolling at the top of the film. This helps the audience wonder what the movie is about.

Narrative opening - An example of an narrative opening is the movie "The shining" as it gives us alot of information about the film. It gives us the Location of the film at the start which makes the audiences straight away know where the film is based in. It also makes the audience understand that there is a family going on a trip as it is a family car.
