I watched a British thriller this holiday called Offender. It's a recent movie based in the U.K. Due to the common settings, Offender is often considered to fall in the genre Social realist, though it is a thriller.
The conventions I noticed were not different as to any others I've spotted in other movies.
A Few of the conventions were
- Quite dark background detailing very vague though it gives the. Chance for viewers to establish the scene and perhaps the story plot.
- Key credits eg production companies directors and star characters
- Non diegetic sound is played of the whole movie opening creating tense atmosphere which is the pasted on to the audience, making them more engaged and interested in the movie.
- A series of characters are shot some closer than others. Use of technique possibly to show high and low status and give audience idea of the plot.
