Intertextuality is a term to describe visual references between films. This is when films borrow from each other and the audience recognise certain parts of a film whether it be the mise en scence or the sound that is being played or even just the editing that is being used.
An example of this is the film Psycho. Here is an example of how intextuality has been used with a scene from Psycho.
